Lovely old book written in the 50s about trialling and border collies. Wonderful quote in the forward by David Rees.
"Close your eyes and you can feel the excited heartbeat of all the young dogs in the world as they see sheep for the first time; you can feel the expectation of every handler on every continent as they walk to the handler's post, and you can smell the earthy lanolin tinged muskiness of woolly sheep as they turn at your feet. Welcome to the world of Sheepdog Glory! It is safe to come back to Dog Club, we have had the AGM and the new Office Bearers are in place. Basically the same as last year. Thank you to everyone who participated.
We had a good training day with several people becoming new members (memberships for everyone else are due now). A mix of dogs on the day, rescue dogs being checked to see if they had the working instincts. Pups just beginning their training and seeing sheep. Older dogs who are already trialling having their training refined. Just watching it all is an education in dogs and people. The next training day will be in September as the Instructors and some members will be away at Trials during August. Good luck to all. |
